Hi everyone,
Ann and I are working with a group of volunteers preparing school bags for under-privileged kids. The bags are donated to schools in the Montreal area to be given to kids whose parents can't afford the hefty price tag alongside school clothes and fees. They estimate that the average parent pays out $400-500 per child per year which can add up if they have multiple kids and they are already struggling.
We make age-appropriate bags so the younger kids got themed bags with construction paper and crayons while the older kids got more appropriate stuff. The content list are taken from the average of schools' websites and bags are tagged per grade. I've attached some photos below of the overall collection. This is a volunteer effort once per year.
We provide the prepared and labeled bags to various school boards and organizations to distribute.
We will use cash donations to make bulk purchases. Anything left over, ie if we have too many of certain items, will be donated to after-school programs.
If you could help out, we would appreciate it, so will the kids and parents who are struggling. I'll post photos and details of the results as we go.
